Picassiette Mosaic with Tami Macala

Have you been curious about mosaic art—or maybe you’ve already been cutting and adhering your mosaics for years?

Whether you’re a brand-new or seasoned artist, this workshop is your chance to dive into the whimsical world of Picassiette—the art of transforming broken plates, teacups, mugs, and other charming cast-offs into fun and functional works of art.

The term Picassiette is French for “broken plate”… or “plate thief,” depending on who you ask. We’ll stick with the more charming version, but if you’ve ever eyed a chipped saucer and thought “this could be art,” then you’re in the right place.

Join mosaic artist Tami Macala for two inspiring, hands-on days at the Santa Barbara School of Art. Tami will guide you through the joyful chaos of cracking ceramic crockery, making design choices, building a cohesive mosaic, and even embedding a 3D object like a teacup right into your piece, just like the photo above!

Tami is open to all design ideas! Search on Pinterest or Google for the design you would love to make in Picassiette Mosaic! Once you have your design and are registered, Tami will let you know if it is achievable for this workshop!

What’s Included:
All tools and materials will be provided, but we highly encourage you to bring your own broken china, sentimental crockery, or funky found objects to truly personalize your piece.

Grouting:
If you finish your mosaic by the end of Day One, you’ll grout on Day Two. If you’re still wrapping things up, no worries—you’ll watch a demo and head home with your own grout kit and instructions to finish at your leisure.
