SANTA BARBARA SCHOOL OF MOSAIC ART

December 2013

Here we are at the end of the year!!  What a great year it has been.  I am so grateful to everyone over the past four years that have supported and enjoyed SBSMA!
With that said the workshops are wrapping up and LAB has a few days left before we turn it up for 2014.  Any last gifts you may want to make for a loved one, or a gift certificate there is still time.
Last month we had our last visiting artist Erin Pankratz-Smith teach her “Color Everything” workshop to a group of amazingly enthusiastic students.  They learned how to create vibrant colors while tinting mortar/thin set and using it with assorted tesserae. There was also a lesson on creating substrates with mesh and tinted mortar.  It was a great succes!
Erin will be back February 22/23 for her “Gradation” workshop.  That is not to be missed!!!
Last but not least the SBSMA mosaic retreat to Todos Santos, Mexico has only 4 spots left.  If you are interested in booking I would not wait.  The location is stunning, the accommodations are perfect and the art will be whimsy and creative.  It is a wonderful mixture of learning and creating art while vacationing.  Bring a friend, bring a husband/wife whatever works just know there are only 4 spots left….oh yea I said that already!!
The dates are March 16-22.  There is a separate email with all the details (if you have not received it please email tami@allcrackedupmosaics.com to receive it)  It is also on the SBSMA website.
This is the view from where the workshop will take place….not too shabby!

Hope to see you soon at SBSMA!

SBSMA’s
“LADIES WHO MOSAIC”

7 friends came together for a fun 3 hour get together just to hang out and create mosaic art.  In that short but busy time they chose their colors and design and began nipping.  They used stained glass on 7″x7″ boards to create their fun and unique pieces.  They all went home with their own piece of mosaic art.

If you would like to get a group of your friends together for a birthday party, bachelorette party or just for a fun and creative time, email Tami for details.

TESTIMONIALS

Like a Zen Master, Tami floats among the students, helping where necessary and coaching us to perfect our works of art. I’m impressed she has remembered all our names! She shows us how to shape the ceramic pieces to best fit into spaces on our boards. H.H.

Hi Tami- I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the mosaic workshop last weekend.  The class was fun and the outdoor setting was perfect.  I am spreading the word around town 🙂 E.S.

Tami’s Latest Commissions

“Ginni the swirling sun part deux”

This is the second swirling sun I had the honor of making.  There is now one on each side of the chimney.  This one I added more bling with beads, found objects and eyelashes.  It is purposefully tilting..

This piece was commissioned as birthday present for a lovely woman here in Santa Barbara by her family.  Constructed on Wedi board, using found objects, mirror edging and sides with tinted mortar and grout.

“Swirling Bench”

This bench was commissioned by the same family as “Ginni, the swirling sun”.  It has a lovely home in the garden under the fireplace chimney with it’s coordinating “Ginni, the swirling sun”.
The wrought iron frame was designed and fabricated by David Shelton, a local SB iron artist.
