Here at SBSMA we are looking back and looking forward all at the same time as we celebrate 5 years! It feels like an incredible accomplishment and so excited to move forward into the next 5 years!!
It has been such a wonderful experience to be both the teacher and artist here at SBSMA. I feel very grateful to call my passion my job, and so fortunate to be able to share it with my clients. Here is a little excerpt from a client’s blog about one of the commissions I created for her….
The sun below is very near and dear to me!!! It was made by a local woman artist named Tami. She has been a friend of the family for years!!! That makes it pretty special BUT That the real reason it is very special is because it was given to me by my family, the dear friends that I work with!!! Each person contributed to it. It was a thrill to receive and a joy to look at!!! I love it so much!!! It is made with special pieces of glass, random trinkets, mementos and a special lapel pin from grandmother. I was so touched! So thrilled! So happy!! It is beyond BEYOND! I thank each and everyone of them for making it and making me feel special every time I look at it!!!! And to Tami too!!! Xo
Just a few weeks ago SBSMA hosted Carol Shelkin for a wonderful Stained Glass Portraiture mosaic workshop. She lead a great group of students through the steps in teaching them about value, shading and tone all while creating a mosaic. I often say Carol teaches an entire semester of art in two days…..Always worth it….Looking forward to her visit again next year!
December has two more workshops before the year is up!
Sunday December 7th is Wine & Mosaics, hosted at the wonderful winery Casa Dumetz Wines in Los Alamos. 1p-4p, $40/person. Each participant will create a 6″x 6″ trivet using the ever so vibrant Mexican Smalti glass tiles.
Sunday December 14th is the Holiday Ornament workshop. Using light weight Wedi board as our shapes and creating the mosaic with beads, baubles, millefiori and glass each student will make 1-2 ornaments. We will create these one of kind mosaics using the pastry bag method and embedding. Once again having fun, learning new techniques and creating mosaic art!

Andjelka is well known for classic and iconography mosaics, and is here in the US teaching, including one more workshop in New York Dec. 11-14. Even though our visit was short we covered many areas regarding mosaics, travel and her return to SBSMA in the future.
