SBSMA is once again offering a very special workshop taught by Santa Barbara local and well known mosaic artist Betsy Gallery.  Come learn the ancient art of mosaics using glass smalti.  These ancient materials are found in Byzantine mosaics and the modern murals of Diego Rivera.

Participants will be exposed to unique design, layout techniques and special tools while making your own piece of mosaic art.

Betsy Gallery’s latest Smalti mosaic

smalti Smalti is created by pouring molten glass onto stone to form thick “pizzas” or “tortillas” which are then cut down to size and shapes required for the mosaic.

To attend this workshop you must contact Tami and send a $50 deposit to hold your place.  Once you have a spot you will be sent 2 choices of design, once you decide your design you will be given instructions to order the proper amount and color of your smalti.  You must also have a pair of wheeled mosaic nippers.  You can purchase those online or at Santa Barbara School of Mosaic Art supply store.  They are $28.95 at SBSMA supply store.  You must sign  up by Sept. 15th  to allow enough time for design choice and smalti order.
