Someone once said to me that because SBSMA is called a “school” it should be in a proper building, or don’t call your business a “school.” We then looked up the definition and it defines “school” as “any institution at which instruction is given in a particular discipline.”
Now as most of you know I teach and run my “school” at my home studio, and while living in Santa Barbara I have the privilege on most days to teach outside in a canopy style covered space over looking our half acre which includes lush gardens, a chicken coop and other eclectic collectibles. Our weather here is quite lovely most of the time and the house sits up on a hill with a direct line as the crow flies about a mile from the ocean, so there is most always an ocean breeze blowing through the studio. Some days I have to say it is truly intoxicating.
Now I share this info with you not to lure you here to SBSMA (but if that description did it…GREAT) only to share that sometimes the best places to be are not in a prescribed building to share talents and teach a particular discipline but sometimes it’s right in your own backyard.
Now then, SBSMA is brimming with new workshops! Check the schedule for a new Pique Assiette (broken plates) workshop, the Mexican Smalti that has been added to this month or the Christmas one day ornament mosaic workshop! Many more can be viewed below and click here for the schedule page to get more details at the website.
Some of you have heard about the liquid tints, for tinting your mortar/thin set or grout, they are now available for sale here at SBSMA! Yes it is true! The same tints being used by Erin Pankratz-Smith and Kelley Knickerbocker you can get here! You can order a set of 9 for $100.00 + s/h or singles for $11.50. Other exciting news, I have been voted on to the Society of American Mosaic Artists board. It is an honor and as a new board member trustee I am looking forward to sharing my experiences with the SAMA community!
