SANTA BARBARA SCHOOL OF MOSAIC ART

September 2014
Here we are heading into the end of summer for most of the country, yet the beauty of living here in southern California is we have most often an Indian summer.  The days stay warm and the nights get a little cooler, but still plenty of time to work outside, paddle board at my favorite spots and enjoy outdoor living.   The workshops here at SBSMA are busy as ever and we are all enjoying the wonderful ocean breezes blowing through here.
On that note we have many great workshops coming up this month.  The Pique Assiette “broken plates” workshop is filling up, Sept. 13/14.  It is a great opportunity to work with personal objects that can be interspersed with broken china, crockery and other great finds.  This style is created around a small mirror to allow for the final product to be a functional piece of hanging art.  Beginners welcome!
We also have Intro to Glass Fusing.  Learning to glass fuse small pieces on day one then incorporating those pieces into a mosaic on day two.  It is a very informative and gratifying workshop, Sept. 18/19.  Beginners welcome!
We will end the month with the ever popular Garden Sphere/Boulder workshop.  This is a great two day hands on workshop to learn how to create a mosaic on a 3D object, Sept. 27/28.  Beginners welcome!
This is the last week to sign up for the Todos Santos, Mexico Mosaic Art Retreat, Oct. 12th-18th.  I am so excited to head back to this beautiful and mystical place.  We will be creating art while gazing out over the ocean,  practicing yoga (optional) on the outdoor yoga deck, eating fresh amazing food created by our chef Iker and listening to the waves crash as we fall asleep in comfortable and clean accommodations.  CLICK HERE FOR THE DETAILS….LAST 2 SPOTS AVAILABLE!!

Last but not least both October and November bring three incredibly talented and wonderful visiting artists back to SBSMA.

First, we have Kelley Knickerbocker teaching her newly designed workshop “Strata Various” Oct. 24-26.  She will be diving into a whole new world of techniques and sharing how to create work with intention on space and tesserae.
Second, we will have Carol Shelkin and her “Portraiture” workshop Nov. 13th&14th.  Carol returns to SBSMA to share her talents on how to create a stained glass mosaic portrait using her specific style and amazing techniques.
Third, we have Betsy Gallery and her “3 Day Intensive, Classic Mosaic Techniques, Materials and Tools” Nov. 21st-23rd.  Students will get hands on experience working with the traditional materials and tools used in the classic mosaics from centuries ago up to present day.
Have a great SEPTEMBER and hope to see you soon at SBSMA!

“LADIES WHO MOSAIC”

7 friends came together for a fun 3 hour get together just to hang out and create mosaic art.  In that short but busy time they chose their colors and design and began nipping.  They used stained glass on 7″x7″ boards to create their fun and unique pieces.  They all went home with their own piece of mosaic art.

If you would like to get a group of your friends together for a birthday party, bachelorette party or just for a fun and creative time, email Tami for details.
