SANTA BARBARA SCHOOL OF MOSAIC ART

February 2012
Greetings!

I am happy to report February has arrived and SBSMA could not be doing better.  There have been some really great new workshops added.  New visiting artists and increased LAB hours.  January was a great month with new and returning students making Table tops, Pet portraits and Beginner 12″x12″ projects.  The latest visiting artists to be added to the  schedule are Sue Baldwin with glass fusing and mosaics in May and Susan Crocenzi with polymer clay and tempered glass in September.  Both workshops are starting to fill up so take a look at the website schedule for more details and to sign up!

Other exciting news at SBSMA:

  • Martin Cheek workshop  is SOLD OUT for the weekend but still openings during the week!
  • SBSMA is now the proud owner of a brand new Skutt glass kiln
  • Looking forward to attending the SAMA conference in Lexington, KY.

I have had the privilege of meeting and working with some great new students in the last two years and watching their talent grow.  It has also been awesome to get to know some very talented artists as well.  Santa Barbara has a wealth of artists from many mediums but within the mosaic medium there are only a few.  At the end of this news letter please take a minute to read about my good friend and great artist Christine Brallier.

It has been so great to meet so many mosaic artists over the years.  Whether at the SAMA conference or right in my own back yard.  A couple years ago I was contacted by a local mosaic artist, Christine Brallier.  Christine is a very accomplished mosaic artist with a great style and attention to detail.  Over the last two years we have shared our love for mosaics and helped each other out with opinions, critiques and installations.  Christine’s work has been shown all over the country and has won numerous awards.  Over the last two years Christine has been creating a mosaic illustrated book that is due out this holiday season.   As well as this year she has been selected by the Society of American Mosaic Artists to design the mosaic that will be created in 3 days at the SAMA conference.  She designed a beautiful 3 panel piece, a triptych,  that will be installed at a non-profit called “The Nest -the center for women, children and families” in Lexington, KY.   It has been so great to see the process unfold and will be awesome to watch the SAMA conference members create this mosaic.   You can see the design at SAMA mosaic marathon Also check out Christine’s website for more pictures and details about her work at cbmosaics.com
